Our sister hotel Ypsylon Resort East Coast is located in the north-east of the island of Sri Lanka.
Situated at the mouth of the Iraqcan river, the site is perfectly suited to the
nature reserve behind it.

The slightly elevated rooms are located on the ground floor parallel to the lagoon which is rich in fish.

The idyllic and spacious grounds are surrounded by magnificent vegetation. The endless, white and wide sandy beach is only about 200 metres away. Our diving school is located directly at the underwater nature park “Pigeon Island”.

A shuttle brings our guests daily to the base 5 minutes away. The Ypsylon also offers an à la carte restaurant with national and international dishes. The Ypsylon Resort is a family business under German management.

Each room has its own large furnished terrace with direct lagoon view. This can also be enjoyed from your bed, as the rooms are equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows. The rooms are comfortably but legère furnished.

They have self-regulating air conditioning, ceiling fan, a king-size bed with spring mattresses, wardrobe, shelves, mirror, table and seating.

Each room also has its own bathroom with large shower, WC, washbasin, bidet, mirror and shelves. Hot water is treated by our own solar collectors. The rooms are about 28 sqm large and completely tiled.

More tables are available for our guests directly at the lagoon. Free W-LAN access is available 24 hours a day in the restaurant and lobby.

Our restaurant is open daily from 7am to 11pm. Hot meals are served from 11am to 10pm. We offer both international and national dishes. The meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, mostly from the cultivation of the pedestrian area.

Our bar is open daily from 11am to 11pm. During events the bar is also open end. Please refer to our corresponding notices.

Continental breakfast*

Singhalese breakfast*

Pot of tea or coffee, freshly squeezed juice. The local breakfast is homemade, changing daily and offers dishes like Roti, Chapati, Hoppers, Naan, Dosai, various curries or rice pudding from red house rice. The flavours vary from sweet, fruity, tart, piquant to hot.

Rice and curry

Traditional local dish. Choice of fish, meat or chicken and seasonal vegetables, prepared with local spices in coconut milk, served with rice, pappadam and own chutney.

Fresh king prawns

Straight from the lagoon to the plate, grilled in garlic butter, served with mixed salad and cocktail sauce

The tastiest quark in the world

Homemade curd cheese from local water buffaloes, refined with palm honey.

Trips

Hoods Tower Museum

Interesting war museum of the Sri Lankan Navy on the peninsula Ostenburg. Before entering the island, permission must be obtained directly from the Navy.

Survila Mangala Raja Maha Vihara

Belongs to the Unesco world cultural heritage. Built about 200 years before Christ under King Kavantissa. The doagoba is said to contain sacred bones of Lord Buddha and was only rediscovered in 1922. Extensive restorations have taken place, so that a reopening ceremony was held in 2009 with high-ranking believers.

Koneswaram Hindu Temple

Has a beautiful location with great views of the sea and Trincomalee. The colourful temple was faithfully reconstructed in 1963 and inside it shows many colourful scenes about the work of God Shiva. The original temple was destroyed by the Portuguese in 1622.

Sri Pathrakali Amman Tempel

Very colourful and interesting temple in the middle of Trincomalee. Insane ceilings and sculptures. The temple is dedicated to Kali, the goddess of war.

Delphin- und Whale watching

Dolphin or whale watching tours for blue and sperm whales is the season on the east coast from April – October. Dolphins can be seen all year round. The 3 hour drive starts early in the morning directly from the resort.

Elephants in the wild

Elephants in the wild, just a few kilometres from our resort, elephants come to drink every evening at a reservoir built hundreds of years ago. Departure at 5 pm until dark.

Kandy

Peradeniya Botanical Garden and. Incredibly diverse and lush vegetation can be admired here.

Kandy City

Beautifully situated city in the interior, centre of Buddhist-Singalesian culture. In the last royal city on the Mahaweli River, the Temple of the Tooth contains the holiest relic of Buddha. UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Pinnawela

Watch a herd of elephants taking a bath or give one of the little babies a bottle of milk.

Minneriya National Park

Consists of mixed evergreen forest and bushes. It is home to herds of elephant, sambar deer, leopard and huge flocks of birds. Which around 300 B.C. the central watering place of the park, built by King Mahäsena, is a meeting place for all animal species at dusk and offers a breathtaking natural spectacle.

Adam’s Peak

2243m high, revered as a holy mountain and a very popular place of pilgrimage for pilgrims of all religions of the island. The depression on the summit is revered as the footprint of Buddha.

Anuradhapura

The oldest Singhalese capital (founded around 380 BC) has a large number of well-preserved or restored sacral Buddhist and secular buildings from the royal era, which can be found in the historic city, which is revered as a holy place. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kataragama

Hindu and Buddhist place of pilgrimage in honour of the god Skanda (shrine 3rd century B.C.), special religious ceremonies e.g. fire running are practised here.

Dambulla

Famous for its five ancient Buddhist cave temples, which were built in a large crevice in an isolated rock massif a good 100m above the surrounding terrain. 100 Buddha statues, ceiling paintings and various Hindu deities. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Nuwara Eliya

“Above the clouds”, highest populated place on the island, around 1900m, in a cool tropical mountain climate, former colonial British summer town, often shrouded in fog and clouds. Largest tea cultivation area.

Horton Plains

Airy lonely plateau around 2100 m, unusual high-altitude vegetation, lined with a charming mountain silhouette. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

World’s End

Steep, around 600m deep rock face on the southern edge of the Horton Plains, rare cloud forest. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ratnapura

“City of gemstones”; valuable gemstone finds such as sapphires, amethysts, aquamarines, tourmalines or topaz. Sri Lanka is considered one of the largest suppliers of gemstones in the world. The grinding and polishing of the blanks is still done with the most modest means.

Sigiriya

World famous frescos of the so-called Cloud Girls from the late 5th century. On the 200m high Lion Rock are the ruins of King Kassapa’s Castle of Heaven, built as a protective castle. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Polonnaruwa

Second oldest capital, diverse buildings from the 11th-14th centuries, biggest attraction: the monumental group of four oversized Buddha statues in different postures, including the 14m long reclining Buddha and the 7m tall standing Buddha. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The only underwater national park:

A likewise untouched, intact underwater world awaits you while diving with healthy reefs, soft and hard corals, as well as diverse species of fish.

We are based at the most famous 40 year old renovated Nilaveli Beach Hotel at the 13th mile post office directly opposite Pigeon Island. With an approx. 200 m. wide beach front we are with our base somewhat hidden in the shady garden of the complex.

Every day at 9 o’clock our first trip to a two-tank-dive starts. Further trips are planned individually and as required. Our friendly employees welcome even late risers at any time for a first informative conversation. The high season is from 1.4. until 30.10. However, during the months of June to September it is advisable to book in advance.

Only 10 minutes from the base you can discover more than 100 different creatures in the sea. Ideal for beginners in the shallow water around Pigeon Island. For advanced divers we visit dive sites like Swami Rock or Irriyakkandu Wreck.

We are equipped with 2 six-seater speedboats. We use Scubapro machines + jackets and Bauer compressors. First aid kits with oxygen, GPS and mobile phone are always on board.

For non-divers we offer snorkeling equipment, kayak, canoe, dolphin and whale watching tours. Bodyboards, jet ski, banana boat and tube can also be ridden with us.
